cAMP Responsive Element Binding Protein 3 Like Protein 4 (CREB3L4)

cAMP response element-binding (CREB) proteins are a family of mammalian transcription activators. The predicted 395-amino acid CREB4 protein has a basic region leucine zipper and shares 62% identity with mouse Creb3. PCR analysis of multiple tissue cDNA panels detected CREB4 transcripts in prostate, brain, pancreas, skeletal muscle, small intestine, testis, leukocyte, and thymus. No expression was detected in heart, lung, liver, kidney, placenta, spleen, ovary, and colon.Transcriptional activity was negatively regulated by the C terminus. Prostate cancer cells treated with a synthetic androgen showed increased levels of AIBZIP mRNA. There was little increase 12 hours after androgen addition, but starting at 24 hours after androgen addition, mRNA levels increased 2- to 3-fold.
